KNOW-HOW | SKILLS | PRACTICE |  POLISH VERSION

We conduct informational and promotional activities in order to provide the greatest access to information gathered during the ‘Work in Poland’ programme and the broadest possible awareness of programme know-how.

--> Our informational and promotional activities include the website for NGOs providing labour market services, www.bezrobocie.org.pl, together a database of NGOs active in this area. As part of the ‘Work in Poland’ programme we organise press conferences to present current activities of the programme and publicise the results achieved by the programme.

So far we have held a press conference entitled ‘Migration and Unemployment: Is Unemployment Falling Because Poles are Emigrating?’ during which we presented the report Contemporary Migration Processes in Poland and the Activity of Non-Governmental Organisations in Fields Tied to the Labour Market (Współczesne procesy migracyjne a aktywność organizacji pozarządowych powiązanych z rynkiem pracy). Press conferences were also held for local print and broadcast media in conjunction with the local seminars conducted under the programme.

--> The conference ‘Migration and Unemployment: Is Unemployment Falling Because Poles are Emigrating?’ was held in Warsaw on 15 January 2008 in conjunction with publication of the report Contemporary Migration Processes in Poland and the Activity of Non-Governmental Organisations in Fields Tied to the Labour Market (Współczesne procesy migracyjne w Polsce, a aktywność organizacji pozarządowych w obszarach powiązanych z rynkiem pracy). This is the first report to provide such a broad review of migration issues, helping to dispel common stereotypes in the social awareness of this topic.

The authors of the report include Dr Paweł Kaczmarczyk from the Centre of Migration Research at the University of Warsaw, Dr Joanna Tyrowicz from the Faculty of Economic Sciences at the University of Warsaw, and experts from the Foundation for Social and Economic Initiatives, who address some of the most compelling issues:

--> Brain drain, brain exchange or brain depreciation? Is Poland exporting its best and brightest?
--> Can migration serve as an element of conscious career development?
--> How much does our country earn from migration? The scale of monetary transfers.
--> Does seasonal migration increase the risk of unemployment?
--> The true scale of migration: case study from Opole and Podlasie provinces.

The conference received extensive coverage in the nationwide and local press. Selected post-conference press reports [in polish] -->
